Today, October 22, Turkish domestic rebar spot prices have risen by another TRY 130-150/mt in the local currency, with just minor changes on US dollar basis, amid the ongoing currency fluctuations. The exchange rate was at $1 = TRY 9.44 yesterday. Accordingly, 12 mm rebar spot prices in Turkey have settled at TRY 8,480-8,500/mt or $749-750/mt ex-warehouse, depending on the region.
Icdas A.S. has closed its lira-based rebar sales today and is only selling rebar at $740/mt on US dollar basis, ex-works. Most mills in the Marmara and Izmir regions have opened their rebar sales at $750/mt ex-works today. Trading activity in the market is silent and most local traders are refraining from new purchases in order to monitor developments in the import scrap segment, while a few local traders are restocking some tonnage to take the advantage of the currency fluctuations.
