Turkey’s merchant bar prices increase slightly

Local Turkish merchant bar prices have risen by TRY 5-15/mt over the past two weeks with just minor changes on US dollar basis, amid weak trading activity and stable scrap prices.

“Most merchant bar producers are focusing on local market sales due to limited export orders, but local demand is not enough to support production for now,” one source mentioned. Accordingly, special discounts are applicable for serious buyers. While some buyers continue to buy to meet their daily needs, some buyers are postponing their purchases until after the Feast of Sacrifice holiday.

Merchant producers are expected to revise their prices in the short term following stronger scrap prices in the most recent deals.
