Domestic merchant bar pricing in Turkey has been mixed depending on producers’ positions and input costs. Suppliers in the Iskenderun and Karabuk regions have cut their offers quite significantly, aiming to generate sales amid poor demand. In the meantime, producers in the Izmir and Denizli regions have on the contrary increased their prices on Turkish lira basis, partly compensating for the exchange rate drop, while just reducing their dollar-basis prices by a small margin. The key reason for the increases, according to sources, is the costlier billet input compared to other regions of Turkey.
Most merchant bar re-rollers are offering for late August-early September delivery, while limited tonnage is also available from stocks. One Izmir-based mill is currently offering HEA/HEB (100-200 mm, standard) at around $890-900/mt ex-works.
