Similar to the tightness of supply seen in the local Turkish rebar market, wire rod supply in Turkey is also tight as Turkish steel mills are currently shipping products for their previous sales to the international market, where demand for Turkish wire rod has been at good levels for a some time now, and so the Turkish mills are unable to fully meet domestic demand all at once.
In this context, domestic wire rod prices in Turkey have remained unchanged over the past week, despite the falls seen in both import scrap and billet quotations. Additionally, in the ex-US scrap deal in Turkey heard today, November 14, prices have moved up. This rise in the import scrap price in Turkey has strengthened expectations for a further price increase in the local Turkish wire rod market since supply in the market is on the low side, while demand is currently at good levels.
