During the week ending November 13, Chinese domestic semi-finished steel prices have indicated significant declines, while transaction activity in the market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, rebar futures prices at Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) have moved down, exerting a negative impact on domestic semi-finished steel prices. Meanwhile, capacity utilization rates of blast furnaces in China have risen slightly, resulting in increased semi-finished steel supply. The mood among downstream users is cautious at present. It is thought that semi-finished steel prices in the Chinese domestic market will soften slightly in the coming week.
