The long-lived volatility of the Turkish lira-US dollar exchange rate is causing Turkish merchant bar buyers to maintain a cautious stance, avoiding restocking activities. As a result, demand in the local Turkish merchant bar market is at low levels. Meanwhile, Turkish merchant bar producers have significantly increased their domestic prices over the past two weeks amid higher production costs against the backdrop of the record depreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar recorded in the current week.
Additionally, having failed to receive desired levels of demand from their domestic market, Turkish merchant bar mills have reportedly focused on export sales, particularly after the European Union’s quota decision which had led a surge in Turkish merchant bar demand in the region.
