Demand in the local Turkish merchant bar market was observed to increase slightly between January 10-17, resulting in a limited number of deals, against the backdrop of the sharp decreases in domestic merchant bar prices caused by the appreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar. Demand has since resumed its slack trend after the deals in question. SteelOrbis has been informed that the increases seen in import scrap quotations in Turkey over the past week have been offset by the ongoing appreciation of the Turkish lira. Under the current circumstances, domestic merchant bar prices have moved sideways week on week after the initial sharp fall in the January 10-17 period. Market sources state that buyers in the local merchant bar market have maintained their wait-and-see stance, while they are not expected to conclude new purchases in the coming days.
