Domestic rebar demand in Romania has been improving despite the uncertainty regarding the issue of the extension of the EU quota system. Construction activity has been somewhat livelier recently, giving a certain boost to pricing in the longs segment.
Import offers are mainly coming from neighboring countries, rising by an average of €145-218/mt over the past month. Suppliers from Hungary are at €750/mt, while rebar offers from Bulgaria are standing at €730/mt. All levels are given on CPT Bucharest basis.
Ex-Italy rebar export offers were standing at €670-680/mt FOB southern ports and some tonnage was traded at €680/mt FOB to Romania last week with the average freight estimated at €25-30/mt. One Italian mill has been offering €740/mt CIF Romania for June shipment. According to sources, an ex-Italy lot of 10,000 mt of rebar was traded this week at €700/mt FOB, equal to around €730/mt CIF Romania, for June shipment.
A few Italian mills have stopped quoting as they are fully booked for June shipment and expected to revise their rebar offers for July shipment soon.
Offers from Turkey and Russia are not being reported in the market, mainly due to the ongoing discussions regarding whether the quota system in the EU will be adjusted or not.
Romania’s domestic rebar prices are standing at around €725-730/mt CPT Bucharest, or at €735/mt CPT Cluj minimum. The price may vary depending on the order size and payment conditions.
