During the week ending March 29, semi-finished steel prices in the Chinese domestic market have continued to rebound, while transaction activity in the overall market has been at low levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the table below.
Demand for finished steel in China has improved, resulting in better demand for semi-finished steel. Rolling mills have stepped up their purchases and accepted higher prices for semi-finished steel. Market players are confident as regards the future prospects for semi-finished steel prices. It is thought that semi-finished steel prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely continue their rising trend in the coming week.
