Rebar prices rise in Poland despite weaker demand

Demand has declined in the Polish rebar market over the past two weeks but local prices have increased, following the previous strong restocking period. Rebar prices have added PLN 50/mt (€11/mt) to PLN 2,020-2,120/mt (€444-466/mt) ex-works. "After a strong restocking period, now we are seeing lower demand in the market. But prices are firm because product availability is also low," a trader told SteelOrbis.

Unattractive import offers also support local prices in Poland. Import rebar offers are at €460/mt CPT from Italy and €465-470/mt CPT from Germany for November deliveries. "Rebar demand is sufficient in Italy and Germany at the moment and they are not willing to give any discounts. They find their local market more attractive than export destinations. That is also another support for local rebar prices in Poland and we do not expect any price cuts due to low demand in the short-term outlook," another trader said.

Prices exclude 23 percent VAT.
