Sales of rebar by distributors in Sao Paulo are currently negotiated at BRL 4,986/mt ($1,246/mt), against BRL 4,676/mt one month ago, ex-works, full taxes except IPI, local sources told SteelOrbis.
The higher price, referring to the CA-50 grade, 10 mm thickness product, reflects a price increase recently announced by local steel producers. Such price refers to very small tonnages, as higher volumes or direct sales by producers are usually entitled to significant discounts.
In August, Brazilian rebar imports were limited to a small cargo shipped from Peru to an importer in the northern state of Amazonas, priced at $633/mt, FOB conditions.
The most recent rebar import offer, received this week from China by Brazilian importers, was priced at $605/mt against $580/mt one month ago. The price refers to the QC/HRB400 grade, CFR conditions, in a port in the south or southeast coast of Brazil.
