Long product distributors in Sao Paulo are reportedly negotiating rebar sales around the level of BRL 3,784/mt ($1,160/mt), ex-works, full taxes except IPI, local sources told SteelOrbis.
The price, referring to the CA-50 grade, 10 mm thickness product, compares with BRL 3,400/mt one month ago, possibly reflecting higher production costs, chiefly energy rates at EAF plants.
“The local producers are pushing domestic prices to compensate for reduced exports, hit by the loss of competitiveness derived from the high production costs,” a local trader told SteelOrbis.
Meanwhile, Brazilian rebar imports have halted since July, when 8,900 mt was imported from Peru at $458/mt, FOB conditions.
