Brazil exported 34,000 mt of rebar in February, four percent more than in January, at an average FOB price 3.2 percent higher, $522/mt.
The main exporter was Gerdau, 31,800 mt at $530/mt, while smaller tonnages were shipped by ArcelorMittal and Votorantim Siderurgia.
Bolivia was the main destination, 27,500 mt at $539/mt, followed by Peru (2,100 mt at $380/mt), Trinidad & Tobago (2,000 mt at $298/mt) and African countries (1,100 mt at $622/mt), all FOB conditions.
Meanwhile, there were no Brazilian imports of rebar in February, reflecting both the reduced domestic demand and the low competitiveness of the Brazilian Real vis-à-vis the American dollar at the time of the price negotiations, probably in December 2015.
A source from a major distributor in the Southeast told SteelOrbis that he is selling the CA-50 grade, 10mm thickness product in the domestic market at BRL 3,420/mt ($955/mt), CFR, full taxes conditions, roughly equivalent to $675/mt FOB conditions.
