It is observed that demand in the local Turkish merchant bar market has accelerated during the past week. With the ongoing increases in import billet and import scrap quotations in Turkey, local merchant bar mills’ production costs have risen. As a result, Turkish merchant bar producers have gradually increased their prices. Currently, domestic merchant bar prices in Turkey are TRY 120-170/mt higher as compared to SteelOrbis’ report published on January 24. Market sources state that Turkish merchant bar mills keep their domestic sales open for a very short window due to the rapid increases in scrap and billet quotations, and so shortages are seen in the local Turkish merchant bar market.
