Brazilian producers remain negotiating rebar for export to South American countries in a price range of $550/mt to $570/mt, FOB conditions for the CA-50 grade, the same range as last week.
In January, Brazil exported 51,900 mt of rebar at $584/mt, FOB conditions. ArcelorMittal exported 38,800 mt at $603/mt, while Gerdau exported 13,100 mt at $527/mt. The main destinations were South American countries (46,200 mt at $579/mt) and the US (5,700 mt at $622/mt), all FOB conditions.
Brazilian producers of long products reportedly are having difficulties with competitiveness and access to other markets, due to the high energy tariff that they pay to operate their electric arc furnaces (EAF). As such, they remain focused on the more logistically-favored markets of South America.
