Domestic rebar prices in Poland have not changed over the past two weeks, while demand has weakened due to bad weather conditions and the unclear market outlook. Buyers currently prefer to wait and see, and producers and traders are in no rush to adjust their prices, taking into account low stocks. Local rebar prices in Poland remain at PLN 2,900-3,000/mt (€643-665/mt) ex-works for now.
The price trend in the scrap segment has also changed to a positive one and most market players believe similar developments will be seen in the longs market also. In addition, weather conditions are set to improve seasonally, supporting restocking activity. "Demand is recovering this week, scrap prices are on the rise and spot stocks are insufficient in the local market. In this situation, we expect higher prices from producers, and also from traders," a trader told SteelOrbis.
Import rebar prices are still considered high in Poland. The latest offers from Moldova have been reported at €640-650/mt CPT, while suppliers from Russia and Ukraine have been standing at €610-620/mt CPT. Buyers have reported deals done at €10-15/mt lower in the last two weeks but, after scrap prices started to increase again since the middle of last week, no new import deals have been heard and new import offers are expected to be higher than the current levels in Poland.
Prices exclude 23 percent VAT.
