Turkish domestic billet prices are at $430-435/mt ex-works in the Iskenderun region, while in the Karabuk area one producer is offering $435/mt ex-works, SteelOrbis has learned. However, no major deals have been reported. Buyers’ bids are mainly below $430/mt x-works. “I would buy at $420/mt tops. Demand is waning,” a steel producer said.
In the import segment, the sellers are acting depending on their estimations regarding the scrap trend and their evaluation of the situation in China. Offers have mainly remained at $425-435/mt CFR depending on the seller, though lower levels have also appeared in the market, mainly offered by trading companies. One deal for 3,000 mt was closed at $425/mt CFR Iskenderun with a trader, while another small lot was booked to the Aliaga area at $426/mt CFR, SteelOrbis has learned. In the northern region, the lowest offers for non-prime ex-CIS material have been reported at $417-420/mt CFR, but again with no deals reported.
Export offers have weakened to around $425/mt FOB from $430-435/mt FOB seen a week earlier. An offer for a mix of rebar and wire rod grade billet was set for Algeria for a 40,000 mt order at $452/mt CFR, but was not accepted by the buyer, SteelOrbis has learned.
