In the last two weeks, Turkish suppliers have cut their merchant bar prices by TRY 300-400/mt ($19-31/mt). The main reasons are the sharp falls in the import scrap and billet prices, the holiday period in European Union on the backdrops of the currency fluctuations. Local demand is silent due to the negative sentiment in the import scrap segment and most buyers are in a wait and see stance.
Most Turkish merchant bar rerollers are offering material for October delivery or limited tonnages available from stocks. An Izmir-based mill has also decreased its HEA/HEB (100-200 mm, standard) and is currently offering $890-900/mt ex-works.
