Turkish domestic wire rod prices have decreased slightly amid weaker scrap prices over the past week.
The product is available for late July-August production. Most buyers are exerting pressure in order to achieve a further price decrease. Limited availability mainly for thin wire rod sizes is still an issue for buyers. Welded wire mesh and wire demand in the local market is heard to be better due to livelier demand from the housing sector. In addition, ‘the wire export market is a bit slower due to the summer season” one source mentioned. However, most buyers continue to purchase just to meet their daily needs in order to be on the safe side if prices decrease.
Moreover, no fresh sales have been heard within the scope of Kardemir’s latest price list dated Tuesday, June 23 for 6-56 mm wire rod at TRY 3,145/mt ($459/mt) ex-works for now. ‘Kardemir may revise its wire rod prices in the short term,’ one source mentioned. Wire rod buyers are expected to evaluate current wire rod offers after gaining a clearer picture of prices in the import scrap segment.
Currently, the local offers for 6-7 mm mesh quality wire rod are as follows:
