Because of the snap election in Turkey to be held on June 24, the sharp depreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar and also due to the beginning of Ramadan, May 16, the local Turkish wire rod market has been characterized by a cautious mood with buyers postponing their domestic wire rod purchases. Demand in the local Turkish wire rod market is still weak, while Turkish steel mills have kept their domestic wire rod quotations stable week on week against the backdrop of higher production costs caused by the changes in the Turkish lira-US dollar exchange rate. As a result, spot wire rod prices in Turkey have also remained unchanged over the past week.
