Rebar spot prices have decreased in Turkey by TRY 8-25/mt depending on the region due to the stronger Turkish lira against the US dollar as well as the ongoing sluggishness of demand. In Turkey’s Izmir region, one mill has closed its rebar sales, with some 5,000-6,000 mt of rebar having been traded recently at $440/mt (TRY 2,583/mt) ex-works in the Izmir region, SteelOrbis has learned. In the Marmara region, a mill which offered rebar at $445/mt (TRY 2,612/mt) ex-works early today, January 9, has decided to close sales after trading some lots. Since early this week, the mill in question has sold around 10,000-12,000 mt of rebar locally. Icdas has kept its offers at TRY 2,703/mt ex-works, but on US dollar basis its price has moved up by $7/mt to $460/mt ex-works due to currency fluctuations. Meanwhile, offers from Izmir Demir Celik have also moved sideways at TRY 2,669/mt ($455/mt) ex-works, up by $6/mt on dollar basis since early January. All the above prices exclude VAT. Taking into account that such offers are hardly workable in the local market in Turkey at present, the mills may revise them downwards in the near future, SteelOrbis understands.
As of today, rebar offers in the Turkish spot market are as follows:
