Due to the slow business activity in the rebar market in Turkey, some local traders have continue to grant good discounts to generate sales, while buyers mainly prefer to wait for a while to observe if prices will move down further. As of March 27, the price levels for 12 mm rebar have dropped by TRY 20-50/mt or by $4-8/mt. In the Marmara region alone, rebar prices have moved sideways on the same day. Sources report some local traders have sought to stabilize their rebar offers as maintenance works by some Turkish mills may lead to tight supply tight. As a result, 12 mm rebar prices have closed the week at TRY 2,880-2,980/mt ex-warehouse.
On March 27, Turkish mill Icdas has decreased its 12-32 mm rebar price on Turkish lira basis by TRY 40/mt ($7/mt) to TRY 3,020/mt ($396/mt) ex-works. Izmir Demir Celik has kept its official rebar price at TRY 3,050/mt ($400/mt) ex-works, with just a minor change in prices on US dollar-basis. Some Marmara-based mills are currently offering 12 mm rebar at around TRY 2,973/mt ($390/mt) ex-works.
As of today, rebar offers in the Turkish spot market are as follows:
