Local Turkish merchant bar prices rise significantly

Local Turkish merchant bar list prices have increased by TRY 650-1000/mt ($78-120/mt) over the past two weeks. The main reasons are the currency fluctuations and the positive sentiment in the import scrap and billet segments. However, most buyers are refraining from new purchases given such a sharp rise in prices and are trying to adjust in line with their financial conditions.

In the Iskenderun region, merchant bar quotations are still offered in US dollars to avoid currency risks. Most merchant bar re-rollers are offering for August-early September delivery, while limited tonnage is also available from stocks. One Izmir-based mill is currently offering HEA/HEB (100-200 mm, standard) at around $900-910/mt ex-works.
