Local Turkish merchant bar prices have mostly fallen by TRY 20-70/mt ($2-5/mt) in order to offset currency fluctuations, while merchant bar prices in the Iskenderun region have decreased by TRY 250/mt ($15/mt) in the past week. The main reasons are sluggish demand and the lack of financial clarity in the country.
Most merchant bar sellers are offering for September-early October delivery and only limited tonnages are available from stocks. Sources report that official HEA/HEB (100-200 mm, standard) prices are available at $970-1,000/mt ex-works, down by $30/mt over the past week. “Local Turkish merchant bar prices have moved down amid sluggish demand, though supply is also limited. As a result, if demand recovers in the short term, then the rise in local merchant prices hike may be higher than expected” a source mentioned.
