Local Turkish merchant bar prices have decreased by TRY 710-852,5 ($43-51/mt) ex-works from a week ago against the backdrop of the negative sentiment in the import scrap and billet segments. Demand is relatively sluggish. Sources report sizeable discounts are available for serious buyers only. As the merchant bar price gap has widened between the different regions in Turkey, merchant bar prices in the Izmir and Denizli regions may be revised in the short term.
Most merchant bar sellers are offering for late August-September delivery and only limited tonnages are available from stocks. Sources report that official HEA/HEB (100-200 mm, standard) prices have also fallen by average $35/mt to $1,000/mt ex-works.
