Turkish domestic merchant bar prices have only risen by TRY 695/mt ($38/mt) in the Iskenderun region since the end of the last week amid soaring energy prices and as prices in the region drew closer to the official merchant bar price range of $740-770/mt ex-works in the rest of the country. Moreover, most merchant bar producers in Turkey have kept their official dollar-based prices unchanged and have only made small adjustments to their Turkish lira prices in order to offset currency fluctuations.
Most merchant bar sellers are offering for early October delivery and only limited tonnages are available from stocks. Sources report that official HEA/HEB (100-200 mm, standard) prices have also remained unchanged at $1,025/mt ex-works over the same period.
On the demand side, most local buyers are exerting pressure for additional discounts and a few merchant bar producers are offering sizeable discounts, of $10-20/mt, for serious buyers to generate sales, SteelOrbis has heard.
