As of today, May 10, merchant bar prices in Turkey have decreased TRY 265-435/mt ($43-54/mt) compared to Thursday, April 28. The main reasons are the negative sentiment in the import scrap segment, sluggish demand and rapid currency fluctuations. Most buyers are maintaining a wait-and-see stance as regards new purchases.
One Iskenderun-based mill opened its merchant bar sales at $850/mt ex-works yesterday after a long absence. Also, one Izmir-based mill has set its merchant bar prices higher than the average merchant bar price range due to its ongoing export bookings.
Turkish merchant bar re-rollers are mostly offering for June-early July delivery and only limited tonnages are available from stocks. An Izmir-based mill has cut its price for HEA/HEB (100-200 mm, standard) by $20/mt to $1,300/mt ex-works amid weaker scrap prices.
