Local Turkish merchant bar prices decrease in Izmir and Denizli, stable in other regions

Local Turkish merchant bar prices in Izmir and Denizli regions of the country have decreased by TRY 27.5 /mt because buyers exerting pressure on pricing, even though local billet prices are higher than in other regions. Market sources indicate that merchant bar supply for thin sizes (up to 160 mm) is tight in the local market, while Izmir-based buyers’ equal angle and IPN purchases in particular are at good levels.

However, domestic merchant bar prices in Turkey’s Iskenderun and Karabuk regions have moved sideways. SteelOrbis has heard that demand is still sluggish in the Karabük region, although some merchant bar producers are offering above TRY 2,680/mt ex-works, it is difficult to achieve this level in the Karabuk region. Moreover, demand is moderate but limited availability is still an issue in the Iskenderun region.

Meanwhile, domestic angle prices in Turkey are currently at TRY 2,600-2,815/mt ex-works, excluding 18 percent VAT. Market sources state that merchant bar producers are offering discounts of TRY 30-50/mt for serious buyers in most regions due to sluggish demand.
