The impression that the downward movement of domestic long steel prices will continue amid the declines seen in import scrap and domestic billet quotations is causing buyers in the local Turkish merchant bar market to maintain a wait-and-see stance. On the other hand, Turkish merchant bar producers are unwilling to reduce their domestic prices since their raw material inventories were purchased at high price levels. Meanwhile, the availability problem experienced for certain merchant bar products in Turkey’s Izmir and Denizli regions last week has been resolved. During the past two weeks, domestic merchant bar prices in Turkey have moved sideways.
