As a result of the upward movement in import scrap and billet prices in Turkey, Turkish merchant bar producers have revised their domestic prices upwards, with significant rises recorded in Turkey’s Izmir and Iskenderun regions. On the other hand, the upward movement seen in Turkish mills’ domestic merchant bar quotations is solely due to higher production costs, while demand in the local Turkish merchant bar market is at very low levels. Since buyers are postponing their restocking of domestic merchant bar and are maintaining a wait-and-see stance, trading activity in the local Turkish merchant bar market is currently slow.
