Local Turkish merchant bar market makes a quiet start to current week

Prices in local Turkish merchant bar market have followed diverse trends during the past week, depending on the region of the country. Meanwhile, demand in the market is heard to be quiet. Angle prices of Turkish mills have remained stable as compared to Tuesday, July 2, at TRY 2,880-3,080/mt ex-works, excluding 18 percent VAT.

It is also heard that some merchant bar mills have started to open sales with prices only valid until 16.00 pm, today, July 8. On the other hand, market players are closely monitoring the trend of the Turkish lira-US dollar exchange rate after the replacement of the head of the Turkish central bank.

Having procured some of their needs during Kardemir’s billet sale which was opened and closed last week, Turkish merchant bar producers will shape their future price strategy depending on the trends of import scrap, ex-CIS billet and domestic billet quotations.
