As of February 19, Chinese domestic semi-finished steel prices have declined on week-on-week basis, while transaction activity in the market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, semi-finished steel prices first moved up but declined later as buyers have been unwilling to accept the previous rapid rises. Not all downstream users have yet returned to the market, and this has exerted a negative impact on demand. Inventory levels of semi-finished steel in the spot market have continued to increase. It is expected that semi-finished steel prices will move on a soft trend in the coming week.
