During the week ending August 28, Chinese domestic semi-finished steel prices have decreased, while transaction activity in the market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, following quick rises in semi-finished steel prices, downstream users have been unwilling to accept the further rises, which resulted in downward corrections in semi-finished steel prices. Meanwhile, most regions in China have issued strict environmental protection policy, which negatively affected the production of rolling mills, lowering demand for semi-finished steel. It is expected that semi-finished steel prices in the Chinese domestic market will edge down further in the coming week.
