During the week ending July 24, Chinese domestic semi-finished steel prices have mostly increased, while transaction activity in the market has been at medium levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.

During the given week, due to environmental protection measures, there has been a supply shortage in the semi-finished steel market. However, on the other hand, demand from downstream users has not improved, remaining slack. The recent rising trend in rebar futures prices has provided support for the semi-finished steel market. It is expected that the domestic semi-finished steel market will likely indicate a slight uptrend in the coming week.
