During the week ending June 19, Chinese domestic semi-finished steel prices have mostly increased due to strict environmental protection requirements, though with prices in some regions moving sideways, while transaction activity in the market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, due to strict environmental protection requirements, supply of semi-finished steel in China has tightened and so domestic producers of semi-finished steel have pushed up their prices. Currently, semi-finished steel inventories have continued to decline, though at a slower pace than before. Meanwhile, demand for semi-finished steel has shown signs of slackness. It is expected that semi-finished steel prices in the Chinese domestic market will move sideways in the coming week.
