According to market sources, a Turkish long steel producer has recently booked 55,000 mt of rebar to Hong Kong at $472/mt CFR on actual weight basis. The volume will be shipped in January. The information has not been fully confirmed by the time of publication, but most market players consider that the deal has been done. In addition, another 50,000-55,000 mt cargo is rumored to have been sold from Turkey to the same destination at a similar price. “Another producer may have booked the second cargo. Asia is rather active now since China is relatively positive,” a trader told SteelOrbis. With the freight rate considered to be $30-32/mt for Hong Kong, the estimated rebar price in the mentioned deal is around $440/mt FOB base, which is closer to the lower end of last week’s offer range.
