Ex-Turkey merchant bar prices under pressure

Turkey’s merchant bar export prices have decreased by $5-15/mt over the past two weeks to $440-455/mt FOB for equal angles, due to pressure from generally low international demand. However, lately Turkish suppliers have been aiming at higher numbers following the uptrend seen in the scrap segment. Despite attempts to raise prices, most market sources still report that prices far above $450/mt FOB are hardly achievable these days. Some support may be seen in the European market where the ‘others’’ quota has been released and the volume for merchant bars is around 85,000 mt. However, Turkey will be able to use only 30 percent of this. In addition, some inquiries have been coming from Latin America and Africa.

Turkish merchant bar export prices are currently at the following levels:

Price ($/mt)

440-455

IPN-UPN

450-465

Flat bar

470-485
