During the week ending November 20, Chinese domestic semi-finished steel prices have indicated decreases, while transaction activity in the market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, blast furnaces’ capacity utilization rate has seen slight decrease, while downstream section steel producers’ capacity utilization rate has also seen decline, weakening the demand for semi-finished steel. Semi-finished steel producers have been pessimistic towards prospect for the future market, thus they chose to sell at lower prices to lower the stock level. At the same time, ferrous metal futures prices have moved down, exerting a negative impact on finished steel prices. It is expected that semi-finished steel prices in the Chinese domestic market will continue to edge down in the coming week.
