The Turkish billet market this week has been active only locally, while neither imports or exports have showed any activity. According to market sources, an Iskenderun-based mill has managed to sell up to 30,000 mt of billet at an average of $380/mt ex-works. Offers in the region are reported at up to $400/mt ex-works for prompt cargoes, as availability is still an issue. In Izmir, billet prices are still at $405-420/mt ex-works depending on the seller, while in Marmara one of the producers is quoting $405/mt ex-works, SteelOrbis has learned.
After small and medium lots were sold last week on the import side at $382-385/mt CFR from the CIS, the import market has been silent. Billet offers from the CIS to Turkey for December shipment are at $385-395/mt CFR and up to $400/mt CFR from some sellers, while bids from Turkish steelmakers hardly exceed $375/mt CFR. Re-rollers in Turkey, however, might be in a position to accept up to $390/mt CFR for November shipments.
In the meantime, Turkey is hardly present in the export market these days with only some mils quoting $380/mt FOB, SteelOrbis has learned. CIS-based suppliers are trying to get $370-385/mt FOB for December production with no positive feedback from customers seen just yet.
