Construction demand lifts Mexican domestic rebar prices

Mexican domestic rebar prices rose US$18/mt during the last two weeks to reach the level of US$701/mt ex-mill.

Sources tell SteelOrbis that construction companies have felt a surge in demand from the reconstruction efforts in the southern state of Guerrero, the most affected by storms Manuel and Ingrid.

Official sources announced that the National Disaster Fund (Fonden) will apply US$16.9 billion in aid to the 81 municipalities declared disaster and emergency areas.

So far, the census has registered 1,363 schools affected with partial damage, minor and total; 161 major roads across the state; 55 health centers with various damages; 7,670 affected housing units, of which 2,785 with total damage and 1,729 with minor damage; 1,396 for relocation, and 1,760 who require relocation as necessary.
