Chinese domestic steel section prices have mostly followed a slight downtrend in the past seven days.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have indicated a minor increase week on week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,910/mt ($603/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,930/mt ($606/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 4,010/mt ($618/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity in the domestic steel section market is currently weak due to the off-season and the impact of the coronavirus is central China. However, the support from prices of billet and other raw materials is still strong, and this has limited the reductions in steel section prices. As for the week ahead, considering that demand is still weak and that there is no sign of downstream buyers starting winter stock replenishments, it is believed that steel section prices in China may continue to indicate small decreases.
