Chinese domestic steel section prices have moved up slightly during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have indicated a slight uptrend during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,520/mt ($525/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,540/mt ($528/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,620/mt ($540/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity in the domestic steel section market has been at normal levels, while prices have been supported by the rises in billet prices. However, with the winter coming, most traders have been willing to offer some discount in order to close more deals and reduce inventory levels. The reduction of production volumes of steel sections has also provided support for prices. As for the week ahead, considering demand may get weaker due to the approaching winter, it is believed that steel section prices may fluctuate on a slightly soft trend.
