Chinese domestic steel section prices have continued to soften during the past seven days.

As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have showed a slight downtrend during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,120/mt ($443/mt), the price of 165 x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,140/mt ($446/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,220/mt ($457/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.

Overall trading activity in the Chinese domestic steel section market has improved slightly and is now at normal levels. Upstream billet prices have moved down by a small margin, placing downward pressure on steel section steel prices. Downstream demand for steel sections has continued its slow recovery and market inventory has lately indicated a decreasing tendency, which gives some support to steel section prices. As for the week ahead, however, it is believed that domestic steel section prices may continue their slightly soft trend as sellers are eager to conclude sales.
