Chinese domestic steel section prices have been mostly stable in the past week, though with downticks also seen.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have risen slightly in the past seven days. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,390/mt ($486/mt), the price of 165 x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,410/mt ($489/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,490/mt ($501/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity in the local Chinese steel section market has been slack. The demand side has mostly been maintaining a wait-and-see stance, while certain traders have been willing to offer certain discounts in order to close more deals. As for the week ahead, considering that the Chinese New Year is approaching and that most of the downstream side may start their holidays soon, it is believed that local steel section prices will again remain mostly stable, with some minor decreases possible.
