Chinese domestic steel section prices have risen slightly during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have continued to move up by a small margin during the past seven days. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 4,990/mt ($771/mt), the price of 165 x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 5,010/mt ($774/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 5,090/mt ($787/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity in the domestic steel section market has been weak due to the offseason and production restrictions, while increases in billet prices have supported steel section prices. Meanwhile, supply volumes are still low, which also provides support for section prices. As for the week ahead, considering the support from the cost side and low supply volumes against the backdrop of weak downstream demand, it is believed that steel section steel prices may just fluctuate slightly.
