Chinese domestic steel section prices have moved down during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have declined in the past seven days. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,150/mt ($444/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,170/mt ($447/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,250/mt ($458/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity in the Chinese steel section market has increased in the past week and is currently at normal levels. Upstream billet prices influenced by futures prices have decreased, and this has been the main reason for the declines seen in steel section prices. Downstream demand has continued to recover and market inventories have fallen slightly. As for the week ahead, considering the negative of the financial markets on raw material prices, it is believed that domestic steel section prices may continue their downward trend.
