Chinese domestic steel section prices have indicated minor fluctuations during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have risen by a small margin during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,930/mt ($606/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,950/mt ($609/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 4,030/mt ($622/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity in the Chinese steel section market has been weak as downstream demand has been impacted by the off-season and the coronavirus pandemic. Some downstream buyers have already left the market ahead of the Chinese New Year holiday, causing demand for steel sections to decline further. The minor increases seen in billet prices have provided some support for steel section prices. As for the week ahead, it is believed that domestic steel section prices may continue to fluctuate slightly, as demand remains weak with the approach of the holiday.
