Chinese domestic steel section prices first moved up during the past week and then decreased, and are currently lower compared to one week ago.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have softened during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,930/mt ($586/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,950/mt ($589/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 4,030/mt ($601/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity in the domestic steel section market has remained weak due to the off-season for business, while prices are down week on week due to the decreases seen in billet prices. Supply has increased slightly. As for the week ahead, considering the weakness of raw material prices in spot and futures markets, it is believed that steel section prices in China will continue to move down.
