Chinese domestic steel section prices have increased on week-on-week basis.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have showed a rebounding trend during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 5,090/mt ($799/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 5,110/mt ($802/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 5,190/mt ($815/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
In the past seven days, Chinese steel section prices first declined and then rebounded, closing at higher levels week on week. Overall trading activity has increased slightly but is still weak because of the large price fluctuations seen recently. Upstream billet prices have recently rebounded, causing section prices to move up also. As for the week ahead, considering that the off-season is coming but that upstream prices have rebounding, it is believed that steel section prices will follow a fluctuation trend.
