Chinese domestic steel section prices have decreased during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have showed a decreasing trend during the past seven days. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 4,950/mt ($774/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 4,970/mt ($777/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 5,050/mt ($790/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity for steel sections in China is weak, even though it has picked up slightly after the strong decreases in prices mainly caused the significant fall in billet prices. Traders mostly hold a negative view of the market prospects and have been ready to lower their prices in order to close more deals. As for the week ahead, supply and demand are both still at low levels, and so it is thought that steel section prices will mostly follow the fluctuations of prices of upstream raw materials.
